FLORIAN CONSIDERS RETIREMENT

Kenny Florian, a three time Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC title challenger is the latest casualty of the industry, it seems. If reports that have been received are correct, the 35 year old Lightweight fighter, who has not set foot in the ring since he was sidelined by a back injury in October, is considering the prospect of retiring from the sport. According to the Boston Herald, which conducted an interview with the man from Massachusetts and asked him about his next move in the industry, Florian said that he was suffering from a herniated disc on his back that happened while he was lifting weights in the gym and he also added that this injury might as well force him to take off his gloves for the last time and retire.

Kenny Florian also added that he had consulted a few doctors about the injury and he has received mixed reviews about his injury. He also added that at the moment, with his back in such a condition, he cannot train at all like he used to do before and that might just be enough to force him into retirement.

Florian went on to add that all he could do now was hope that his back gets healed completely and was keeping himself busy by commentating on the ESPN’s MMA Live. However, Florian knows that the longer it takes him to heal, the longer he will have to battle it out to have a last shot at the title and so, he is giving himself a maximum of six months. Kenny Florian further added that if at the end of the time, his back was not back in shape, he would take his final bow and walk out from the sport that had made a superstar out of a street kid.

Florian: Everyone’s getting better

“Everyone’s getting good, everyone’s getting better, everyone’s learning. I think once you start to know the fighters in the upper levels, you start to kind of figure out their game and then everyone realizes that everyone’s training hard,”- UFC fighter Kenny Florian has stretched his body to the limit on both ends of the spectrum in the process of becoming the only person in history to compete in four different weight classes under the UFC banner and has still managed to stay strong and focused.

“Ken Flo” has, however, decided to return to the lightweight ranks after losing to UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo. “It’s going to be interesting getting back in there – there’s a lot of tough guys there. Right now, the 155-pound division is probably the deepest”, he said assuring his fan following that he will continue competing.
